Rachel's Trip To Africa

Picture of Rachel in AfricaI went to Africa to assist the victims of poverty and crime in Kenya. Most of the people I met were kids.

I talked with them because I wanted to help them with the things they would need.

The most important thing they need is clean water. Without the clean water, they are forced to drink contaminated water from the lakes and rivers.

The water from the river causes them to have various diseases and this effects them from going to school. This is a big problem because without education the kids will not be able to get the opportunity to do the things they want in life, such as to become doctors or teachers.

I learned that if the students did not pass certain exams in middle school, they would not be able to move on to Form One, which we call 9th grade.

The children in Africa are begging for the opportunities we have and we take them for granted.

Since I have returned from Africa, I have taken advantage of all of my opportunities and the education I have been provided to succeed.

I have always done well in school, but this trip has motivated me to do better. I am so grateful for being able to go to Africa. I will continue to help, and wish to return soon.

I have been motivated so much that as soon as I got back home, I started raising the $3,000.00 the school (Barack Obama Secondary School) needed for their windows and doors.
