Amani

Amani is in the 5th grade in New York. She came home from school one day in September and yelled excitedly to her mom that the school was having elections for the Student Body Government. Amani announced, “Mommy I’m going to run for school President.” Wow! are you sure her mother asked? Yes, because one day I will be the first woman President of the United States and I have to start somewhere.Picture of Amani Sutherland

Amani began campaigning with her best friend. They made posters and placed them around the building asking the other kids to vote for Amani for school President.

After several weeks, Election Day found Amani nervous and anxious. When she told her parents how she felt, they told her she was already a winner because she followed her dream, campaigned and above all, did her best.

Amani called her parents after the votes were counted and told them with joy in her voice, that she was the new President of her School. She also told them that President and First Lady Michelle Obama were her inspiration.

Amani is very active in her school and besides being school President, she is also in the Newspaper Club, Junior Girl Scouts, volunteers with the Daisy’s and Brownies twice a month, and is also participating in a school tribute to Janet Jackson where she plays Janet and dances to her song Control.

Amani just found out that she has been accepted in the Scholars Program for junior high next year. She has two older brothers and following in her footsteps is younger sister, Amya

Keep up the good work, Amani !
